Police: 3-year-old killed by family dog in High Point
A 3-year-old girl died after being attacked by a family dog Monday, High Point police said.
The incident was reported just after 5 p.m. in the 900 block of Big Creek Court off Old Plank Road
on the city's north side.
The child was taken to High Point Regional Hospital by a family member, but the child died.
Pastor David McGee, who is representing the family, identified the girl as Brealynn Coulter, 3. Addressing the media Thursday afternoon, McGee said he is asking for prayers for the Coulter family.
High Point police identified the animal as a pit bull terrier. The dog was held at the Guilford County Animal Shelter in Greensboro until Thursday, when prosecutors ordered the dog be euthanized for rabies testing in Chapel Hill.
The investigation continues. Police said Thursday it will be a few more days before they determine whether charges will be filed.
A neighbor told WXII's Veronica White Tuesday that a man, his girlfriend, and the girlfriend's child lived in the home, along with two pit bulls.
Police said they haven't substantiated reports that the animal had a history of aggression. McGee said Thursday those reports were "whack" and added Brealynn was cuddling with the dog the day before the attack.
