The family of a mentally challenged young man is requesting a Mississippi judge be barred
from court for striking a mentally challenged young man and using racial slurs. The family of 20-year-old African-American Eric Rivers has filed a complaint against Madison County Justice Court Judge Bill Weisenberger, who is white, for the May 8 incident at the Canton Flea Market.
Witnesses say they saw Wiesenberger, who was wearing a security guard uniform, strike the young man twice and shout, “Run, boy, run.” And “Run, nigger, run,” as Rivers ran away from him. Canton NAACP Chapter President William Truly is calling for Weisenberger, a former law enforcement officer, to step down from hearing cases until a full investigation is done.
“This is 2014, not 1960, where someone could slap a young man and call out, ‘Run, nigger, run.” Furthermore Truly said, “No citizen should have to face justice before a judge who holds a high degree of racial animus and hatred.”
